Charles Dickens, updated Penguin hardbacks – modernised tales.

Aims and ambitions.

As a self–initiated project for my final Major Projects module, I gave myself the task of designing a cohesive and visually compelling redesign for three of Dickens’s Penguin Classics editions. The aim of the project was to unify the chosen collection in a modern, updated approach through a set design system, whilst emphasising the author’s social commentaries, which remain relevant in today’s climate. This is particularly around ideas of identity, poverty, growth, and social injustices.

With a young, contemporary literature-enthusiastic demographic in mind, I developed a full cover jacket for the three editions of A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, and Great Expectations. Whilst these vivid tales are fiction, their impacts remain strong and rich even today.
